Mission: Impossible? Traveling During a Pandemic

Traveling during these times might seem tricky at first, but in the end it surely is a great way to get away from it all, so to all the globe-trotters that are reading this article: buy your ticket, book your hotel and don’t look back! I have done it myself and I wouldn’t change a thing.

I consider myself a very meticulous planner, when it comes to itinerary and visiting schedule, but that didn’t stop me from ruining my plans last minute and making new ones as I flew to a country I have never visited before. So, if you want to find out how I did it, then keep on reading!

I have had this holiday all laid out for over a year, with all my flights and hotels booked, but three weeks prior to it, my hometown, Bucharest, was announced to possibly enter quarantine sooner than expected. I have been looking forward to this trip ever since I can remember, so I didn’t waste a second and immediately changed my flights. Only on my way to France did I realize that I turned my five days trip into a three weeks holiday, without having enough money to actually pay it. But I didn’t let that hold me back.

On our way to Paris, with our tickets bought right at the airport

When I arrived to Paris I started looking for ways to manage the amount of money I had, so that I could enjoy my trip after all and not cancel everything I wanted to experience. One day, I saw an amazing art exhibition, that I really wanted to see, but I started feeling guilty about how much that would have costed and then I came up with a great idea, that ended up saving me a lot of money.

I searched their press phone number and told them I would love to promote their immersive art exhibition on my Romanian local television that I work for, in exchange of free access to it. They were more than happy to offer me that and even more: an opportunity to meet and interview the famous photographer behind this unique exhibition!

L’Atelier des Lumières-The Last Sentinels Immersive Art Exhibition

This particular experience added an unexpected twist to my trip, so then I decided to try my luck and call every single place I wanted to visit and every person that could offer me an unforgettable experience in Paris. Just like that, I obtained a free private photoshoot in Paris with an incredible photographer and an offer to learn to cook macarons alongside a French chef.

I will forever cherish this memorable holiday and I strongly encourage you to leave all your fears behind and leave if that is what your heart is telling you to do. And remember: the best plans are the ones that don’t work out as they should!
